Cell Cultivation Under Flow II – New Insights and Applications July 10, 2020

Introduction:

Certain cells, such as the endothelial cells in blood vessels or renal epithelial cells, are constantly exposed to shear stress in vivo. Experimentally, flow conditioning of the cells is achieved by perfusing medium through cultivation chambers, and by maintaining these flow conditions over a long period of time, lasting from hours, up to days.

This webinar will provide an overview of the function of endothelium as a barrier between the blood stream and the tissue beneath. It will also introduce various perfusion applications and experimental setups. In addition, the physical background of flow systems will be explained, as well as the impact of these factors on cells, regarding morphology, physiology, and function.

There will be a special focus on new applications that use the ibidi Pump System, such as impedance measurements, pulsatile flow, and the addition of substances to the flow system. The effect of shear stress parameters on cells will be elucidated by new internal experimental results, as well as by other publications.

Webinar Outline:

Cell Cultivation Under Flow II webinar will focus on the following aspects:

  • New applications for the ibidi Pump System, such as:
    • impedance measurements under flow
    • pulsatile and oscillating flow
    • solution exchange
  • Physical values that impact cell culture, such as:
    • flow chamber geometry and shear stress
    • influence of surface characteristics
  • How to choose a suitable system for your application
