Enriching People’s Lives With Better Ear Disease Treatment

Ear disease and hearing loss can significantly impact a person's quality of life. The economic cost of hearing loss on a global scale is estimated at nearly USD 1 trillion annually with over 80 percent of patients residing in low and middle-income markets.

According to the WHO, nearly two million Cambodians have disabling hearing loss with chronic middle ear infections as a leading concern. While there are various causes, the most frequent are incorrect treatment, ototoxicity, and inner ear defects. These infections often go untreated for years, causing the eardrum to become inflamed until it perforates, which leads to hearing loss.

DKSH partnered with All Ears Cambodia, a local NGO helping people with hearing problems, to support Karl Storz in donating high-quality diagnostics and surgical instruments for the treatment of ear diseases to Calmette Hospital, the largest hospital in Cambodia.

The donation will help the hospital’s ear, nose, and throat medical team to tackle these health issues and make a positive and sustainable difference in the quality of life of patients suffering from ear disease and hearing loss.

All Ears Cambodia runs the Project Advancing Oto-Audiology in cooperation with Calmette Hospital. The three-year project aims to develop technology and clinical skills in otology and audiology at Phnom Penh’s leading general hospital, including the training of ENT doctors, the provision of diagnostic tools to establish adult and pediatric audiology services, and the development of ear surgery services.

At DKSH, our purpose is to enrich people’s lives. We do so by providing reliable access to high-quality and responsible products and services, creating sustainable value for our partners, and contributing to raising the quality of life in the communities we operate in by generating jobs, perspectives, and opportunities for people’s development and growth.
