ASD pioneered the science of field spectroscopy over 25 years ago and continues to lead the industry with the world's most trusted field-portable UV/Vis/NIR/SWIR spectroradiometers covering the full solar reflected spectrum.

The ASD FieldSpec 4 line of full-range spectroradiometers delivers the fastest and most accurate spectral field measurements available from any commercial field-portable spectroradiometer. Continued enhancements to core instrument spectrometers and other critical components have dramatically improved overall performance, signal, and integration speeds compared to earlier models.

ASD FieldSpec 4 spectroradiometers are designed specifically around the challenges researchers face when collecting spectral measurements in the field.

Enhanced spectral resolution to support accurate analysis of the next generation of hyperspectral sensors.

The enhanced 6 nm SWIR spectral resolution of the FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res NG spectroradiometer provides both the sampling interval (bandwidth) and the spectral resolution to support accurate calibration and image classification analysis with the next generation high spectral resolution hyperspectral sensors.

Higher resolution hyperspectral sensors yield greater precision for remote sensing classification applications, producing more information from every pixel generated in an image than ever before. To help maximize the full potential of these next generation sensors, measurements from ground based instrumentation need to meet or exceed the sensor’s spectral resolution. In the absence of this resolution equality, data is interpolated during post processing and vital spectral information can be smoothed and lost.

The enhanced spectral resolution of the FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res NG spectroradiometer has been designed to meet the rigorous demands of the next generation hyperspectral imaging systems such as AVRIS-NG and HySpex ODIN-1024. In addition to superior spectral resolution the FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res NG, like all ASD spectroradiometers, incorporates graded index InGaAs photodiode SWIR detectors to provide the smallest available spectral sampling interval in a field portable device with 1,875 measured wavelengths over the full 350 to 2,500 nm spectral range, ensuring detection of even the most subtle spectral features.

High resolution spectral data from a ruggedized field-portable spectroradiometer.

With 8 nm SWIR spectral resolution the FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res spectroradiometer is the instrument of choice for geological studies and atmospheric research.

The FieldSpec® 4 Hi-Res is a high resolution spectroradiometer designed for faster, more precise spectral data measurements for a wide array of remote sensing applications.

The 3 nm VNIR, 8 nm SWIR spectral resolution of the FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res spectroradiometer provides superior spectral performance across the full range solar irradiance spectrum (350 – 2500 nm). The enhanced spectral resolution in the SWIR range (1000 – 2500 nm) is particularly useful for detecting and identifying compounds with narrow spectral features in the longer wavelengths such as alteration mineralogy and gases for atmospheric analysis.

Additionally the 8 nm resolution meets or exceeds the spectral resolution of most hyperspectral sensors making the FieldSpec 4 Hi-Res spectroradiometer an excellent choice for sensor validation and calibration, as well as ground truthing and building spectral libraries.

The go-to standard for trusted portable field spectroscopy.

The FieldSpec 4 Standard-Res spectroradiometer, with 10 nm SWIR resolution is perfectly suited for characterizing spectral features with a resolution of 10 nm to 50 nm, which covers the technical requirements of most field researchers. The FieldSpec 4 Standard-Res spectroradiometer has long been the industry’s go-to workhorse instrument for trusted field spectroscopy and the scope of potential applications is broad.

The 3 nm VNIR, 10 nm SWIR spectral resolution of the FieldSpec® 4 Standard-Res portable spectroradiometer is ideal for characterizing spectral features with a resolution down to 10 nm. The FieldSpec 4 Standard-Res is well positioned to meet a majority of the technical needs of field researchers who require dependable and trusted results from a field portable spectroradiometer.

The FieldSpec 4 Standard-Res portable spectroradiometer is the right choice for a wide range of remote sensing applications, including multispectral sensor ground truthing and calibration, agricultural analysis, and snow and ice studies. In addition to being a world class spectroradiometer, the FieldSpec 4 Standard-Res is equally suited to serve as a rugged, portable spectrometer for accurate contact reflectance or non-solar stand-off measurements.

FieldSpec - Dual Collection Software

The FieldSpec® Dual collection software system leverages the value and utility of the world’s most trusted line of portable field spectrometers. The software intercalibrates and wirelessly synchronizes two ASD FieldSpec spectroradiometers to collect near simultaneous white reference and sample target radiance spectra. The system virtually eliminates errors associated with time varying atmospheric conditions, one of the biggest challenges to collecting accurate field spectra range.

System Requirements

Compatible instruments include all FieldSpec 4’s and FieldSpec 3’s serial number 16178 and higher. FieldSpec Dual system configuration requires at least one FieldSpec 4. Spectroradiometers must be of the same spectral resolution.

Required Accessories

Dual Reference Mount and a Wave Length Calibration Puck are required for operating the FieldSpec Dual software. To ensure accuracy and a convenient, efficient workflow ASD also recommends factory re-calibration of existing instruments, a heavy duty tripod, and the tripod instrument hook.
