This seminar discusses about well-established vapor sorption techniques of Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS) and Inverse Gas Chromatography (IGC).
This applications-oriented seminar will focus on the physicochemical characterization capabilities offered by the DVS and IGC in polymers, films, powders, nanomaterials, and composites. In particular to IGC, practical examples and case studies will be given that cover a wide range of relevant problems including: surface energetics, wetting behavior, composite adhesion/cohesion phenomena, solubility parameters, and powder flowability/agglomeration. Related to DVS, examples and case studies will be reviewed, such as, moisture sorption properties; drying and shelf life stability, determination of amorphous contents, vapor-induced phase changes, and vapor diffusion/permeability studies. Also, the combination of the DVS with video microscopy and Raman spectroscopy will be discussed including examples on relevant materials.

Dr. Daniel is the Vice President for Surface Measurement Systems, NA, located at the North American headquarters in Allentown, PA. His team works on research studies and science applications for many prominent companies. He received his bachelor’s degree in Professional Chemistry from Eastern Michigan University in 1997 and Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2001. Dr. Burnett has authored and co-authored over 25 papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous national and international conferences.
Surface Measurement Systems develops and engineers innovative experimental techniques and instrumentation for physico-chemical characterization of complex solids. We are the world leaders in Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS) technology and Inverse Gas Chromatography instrumentation and solutions, providing professional world-class scientific and technical support for our international customers.
Dynamic vapor sorption is a valued tool in laboratories all over the world, within R & D, from polymorphism and compound stability studies to bulk and surface adsorption effects of water and organic vapours. It is a vital part of quality control analysis techniques for both scale-up and production, and can even be found within the packaging arena, measuring both the efficacy and permeability of packaging, and the effects of humidity and temperature on the samples within the packaging.
The iGC-SEA continues Surface Measurement Systems’ pioneering history with inverse gas chromatography (iGC), which now spans more than fifteen years. The iGC-SEA is a second generation iGC instrument. It is the world’s only commercial instrument based on the iGC principle. The unique SMS injection scheme provides a wide range of injection concentrations with unrivalled accuracy and reproducibility.
