Enriching Students Lives With Modern STEM Laboratories

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education is now the backbone of every major economy around the world. India is no different as the government had instilled STEM education as a part of the education curriculum right from elementary school.

This makes it important for schools and teachers to introduce the right tech infrastructure and school solutions that will equip the faculty and the students with the necessary tools. Yet, this can be a challenge for rural and community-based schools in the market.

Driven to give these students similar access to STEM education, DKSH partnered with CRY, an Indian non-governmental organization, to provide six community schools in the local regions of Pune and Wardha, Maharashtra in India with new labs for use in STEM subjects. For over four decades, CRY has worked with parents and communities to ensure lasting change in the lives of more than three million underprivileged children in India.

The STEM lab project includes 80 models, 80 user placards, 40 colorful backgrounds, one safety placard, and one teacher’s manual to create a platform for using the models along with an electrical connection. By having these facilities, more marginalized children in these communities can be exposed to hands-on, experiential learning of science, innovation, and technology.

More importantly, these facilities aim to develop the aptitude of children studying in grades six to nine toward STEM subjects, eradicate the fear of learning, and motivate more children to stay in school.
