Halal beauty products are composed, produced, and made from ingredients permitted under Islamic law. With over 240 million Muslim consumers in the Southeast Asia region, the demand for halal beauty industry is expected to increase.
Growth of the beauty and personal care industry is predicted around 10 percent in Indonesia and 15 percent in Malaysia in 2023. The number can be attributed to consumers trusting products that have a halal certification as they perceive such products to be more ethical. Brands have begun to set up halal factories to cater to the growing demand for the availability and wider variety of halal beauty products.
To be certified as halal, ingredients and facilities will be inspected to ensure that there are no contaminations during any part of the manufacturing process. Indonesia, the market with the largest Muslim population in Southeast Asia, passed the “halal product assurance” regulation, expected to be fulfilled by October 2026.
Halal beauty is also gaining popularity among many non-Muslim consumers who demand ethically produced cosmetics and skin care products that are not tested on animals, are cruelty-free or are made from 100 percent non-meat ingredients. Read more
