Similar to many other markets in Asia, Taiwan’s healthcare sector could benefit from having an improved patient journey that delivers better quality of patient care and simultaneously comply with increasingly stringent local regulations.

DKSH is working with some of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Taiwan to provide support to and help patients receive medication information through PSP services. Challenge

Several DKSH clients in Taiwan, including biological agent and oncology medicine providers, saw the need to provide their patients with better disease knowledge and medication education. These were important to help enhance patients’ compliance with their medication and to improve treatment outcome.

Like most pharmaceutical companies, DKSH’s clients faced challenges in resources and time constraints as well as strict local market regulations — such as the IRPMA Code of Practice which recommend that PSP services should be provided through a third-party service provider.

Approach

In order to develop a strong patient solution program, DKSH’s PSP team, which comprises highly-skilled and well-trained health educators, worked closely with the clients to understand the specific needs of patients, healthcare professionals and clients to design the program that would ensure the delivery of the best quality in patient care.

In addition to face-to-face services, the PSP also features a call-center service to help patients located in remote areas to receive medication education via telephone calls and report adverse events quickly and easily.

Result

Through the PSP services, DKSH’s pool of health educators currently helps more than 2,500 patients in Taiwan to better understand their conditions and recognize the importance of medication adherence as well as help improve the overall quality of care throughout their treatment journey.

Moreover, our PSP service provides adverse event reports to clients on a regular basis, enabling them to submit relevant data and patient safety information to the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration in an accurate and timely manner.
