Challenge

The success of any vaccine distribution program will rely on healthcare front liners, medical facilities and hospitals having a foolproof sustainable solution to store, transport and deliver the vaccines. The storage must be able to better retain temperature than the normal Styrofoam box while maintaining the quality of the products delivered.

Besides a cold chain packaging solution, there is also a need for packaging products to further reduce the carbon footprint by replacing dependency on single-use Styrofoam containers.

Approach

As a leading healthcare products distributor across Asia, including in Thailand, we are constantly improving our cold chain management systems for our business partners. Backed by an experienced team in the healthcare industry, we developed the B-Box. The validation of the boxes is carried out annually by taking several different scenarios into account with our quality assurance professionals.

100 percent returnable and reusable and available in both 80-liter and 40-liter packaging options, the key features of the box include its purposely designed label indicating the storage condition of the product along with the expiration date and time of the cool or frozen gel used, which sets it apart from the other similar solutions available in the market

It also uses an excellent insulating material that is easy to clean and is ultra-lightweight. Yet, the box itself is robust and designed to be stackable for easy storage, safe transport and built to be more durable than the traditional Styrofoam boxes.

The B-Box is a temperature-controlled cold chain box that comes with a unique code on its label that enables tracking the exact delivery location of the package for inventory purposes. The B-Box will be used to deliver the COVID-19 vaccines when they are available to be distributed to the population in Thailand.

Result

The B-Box was initially introduced to five hospitals in Thailand. To date, they are used by more than 6,000 customers nationwide with most of them being used in hospitals located in the central, north and northeast of Thailand.
