Challenge

With the COVID-19 vaccines already available, the discussion has now turned to how governments, healthcare providers and logistics companies can distribute the highly sensitive temperature-controlled vaccine to the entire population.

The major challenges ahead include operational issues, manpower requirements including quantity and skillsets, technical knowledge and expertise to handle the delivery and logistics throughout the cold chain distribution process.

Approach

To meet all these unique challenges, we introduced a three-hour delivery window period for all lifesaving and COVID-19 related diagnostic products going through our distribution center. Along with this, we also adjusted our manpower and logistics schedule to cope with the increased demand for cold-chain delivery services. During this period, we recorded over a 30 percent increase in delivery requests.

The team increased our temperature loggers by 50 percent and invested in a new radiofrequency system that helped to enhance our internal logistics movement at the distribution center.

Result

Following our prompt approaches, our business partners and customers were able to ensure that their operations remained intact without any interruption throughout the pandemic.

We have been able to attract new clients in Singapore that are keen on using DKSH’s cold chain distribution service.
