Two decades ago, most would have laughed if they were told that China would soon be the leader in artificial intelligence research. Yet, this is exactly what has transpired.
It is today a world leader in AI research, publications and patents, especially in AI-empowered businesses like speech and image recognition applications. Last year alone, it filed more than 110,000 artificial intelligence patents. China’s global share of AI research papers accounts for nearly 30 percent, surpassing any other markets in the world.
