Introducing Natural Bakuchiol as the Hero Ingredient for Natural Skin Care in Malaysia

Challenge

As an all-natural, vegan, and cruelty-free brand, our customer had limited options when it came to sourcing for the appropriate ingredients and solutions available in the market. It needed a partner that could help source the fitting bakuchiol ingredient for its product.

As bakuchiol is widely used in the skin care industry, brands often have difficulties in highlighting their product differentiation and face stiff competition among similar products in the market. It was important for us to also help our customer differentiate its product from the rest.

Approach

The perfect fit for our customer’s all-natural products was the equally natural Sytenol A Bakuchiol. Developed by Sytheon, a research-based company developing high-performance active ingredients for the personal care industry, it is a natural alternative to retinol minus the negative effects.

A well-defined compound with over 99 percent purity, the product has been clinically demonstrated to reduce hyperpigmentation and wrinkles as efficiently as retinol, but with a better skin tolerance. Bakuchiol boosts cell turnover by stimulating collagen production and reducing fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and overall photodamage.

We supported the product development journey by providing market research data, consumer trends, and insights into the ingredients. We also addressed the challenges faced by the customer during product formulation.

Result

Resulting from our recommendation of Sytenol A Bakuchiol to Handmade Heroes, it proceeded to successfully launch a new product in 2020 called The Ultimate Bakuchiol Booster Oil. Since then, it has achieved tremendous successes including being selected as Amazon’s Choice on Amazon and appearing as one of the bestselling skin care products in several markets including Malaysia. It was also voted as the Best Natural Anti-Ageing Treatment product in Harper’s Bazaar Malaysia Beauty Awards 2021.

In 2021, Handmade Heroes introduced another new product called Cocolivious Luscious Lip Mask with Bakuchiol.
